In less than 6 months, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will implement the Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM), which will replace the Skilled Nursing Facility’s (SNF) Resource Utilization Groups (RUGs) payment system. The system will fundamentally change how care in a SNF is delivered. Rather than a focus on the volume and type of services delivered, the new model will focus on the characteristics of each patient admitted. Financial success will depend on the integration of systems for patient assessment and appropriate care delivery.
