This course will guide leaders, managers, supervisors, and the QAPI committee through the CMS QAPI regulatory requirements. There are four F tags for QAPI: F865, F866, F867, F868. QAPI is also listed as a deficiency to be considered by surveyors when other care and service areas breakdown. This course will assist you in building a strong QAPI program and preparing for successful regulatory surveys.

1. Quality Assurance Process Improvement (QAPI): It Starts With a Plan

A compliant QAPI plan outlines the systematic approach that your team utilizes to ensure excellent outcomes for those we serve. This chapter defines key elements and feedback loops that are required to be within the facility QAPI plan. This chapter also provides strategies to integrate the CMS model of “high-risk, high-volume, or problem-prone, and opportunities for improvement” triaging model into operations.

2. QAPI: Managing Data Collection

This chapter introduces the “data source form,” which outlines the metrics your team has determined will provide oversight to the operations defined within the required facility assessment. It also explores feedback loops and communication methods that engage stakeholders, residents, resident families, direct care staff, and others to contribute in making the best decisions.

3. QAPI: Looking at the Quality Assessment and Assurance (QA&A) Role

This module explains the “monitoring” role of the Quality Assessment and Assurance (QA&A) team. It explains the key responsibilities assigned to ensure operations are achieving and exceeding set goals. Regulatory requirements are also outlined.

4. QAPI: Evaluating the “Connection” of the Facility Assessment and the QAPI Plan

This module outlines the QAPI process flow between operations and quality utilizing the required QAPI plan and the facility assessment. Quality Assessment and Assurance (QA&A) ensures performance is meeting or exceeding standards or has an improvement plan in place.
