1. Introduction: Impairment in the Workplace
Impairment in the workplace and its impact in health care is defined in this chapter. Lives are at stake when a clinician is impaired. The chapter will review the prevalence and trend of workplace impairment in the United States and Florida.
2. Identifying Signs of Impairment
Learn to recognize the signs of workplace impairment and how to respond when these signs are identified.
3. Employer Mandates
Laws in Florida have created employer mandates to address impairment in the workplace. This chapter provides an understanding of those mandates, as well as the required employer initiatives to promote safety and provide assistance.
4. Mandatory Reporting
All health care workers are tasked with recognizing impairment and understanding the steps necessary to report or make a referral for an impaired clinician. The mandatory reporting requirement will be discussed.
5. Best Response Assistance Strategies, Referrals, and Treatment
This chapter provides information regarding assistance for ourselves or a colleague, including resources and treatment programs. The learner will gain the understanding to respond appropriately, implement strategies for assistance, and make referrals (when necessary) to resources and treatment programs.
