In the first course of this series, the treatment of the typically developing child was discussed. This course will discuss more advanced diagnoses, evaluation, and treatment of the child with pelvic floor dysfunction. Diagnoses such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Hirschsprung's disease, and bladder exstrophy will be discussed in the context of pelvic floor physical therapy. Advanced evaluation and treatment strategies will be presented along with education for families and patients about prognosis and treatment. At the end of this course, the learner will have a comprehensive plan for understanding advanced pelvic floor diagnoses and what can be helped by therapy services.

Dr. Carina Siracusa has been a practicing physical therapist since she graduated from Ohio University with her doctorate in physical therapy in 2005. She has practiced in the areas of pediatric, neurologic, oncologic, and pelvic floor physical therapy in her tenure as a physical therapist. In this chapter, the learner will be able to identify the common pelvic floor issues associated with surgeries in this area. They will also understand the implications for gross motor development and the need for other allied health professionals.
