Amanda Petrone

PT, DPT, Cert. MDT

Amanda Petrone is a credentialed McKenzie physical therapist at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, New Jersey. From the start of her career, Dr. Petrone has honed her skills in the realm of spine care. She has also placed a focus on falls assessment and prevention, with specialization in treating individuals with Parkinson's disease. Dr. Petrone has been certified in LSVT BIG since prior to her graduation from Rutgers University in 2015. She is also certified in Parkinson's Wellness Recovery and has become a Rock Steady Boxing coach. Dr. Petrone has also been an active member of the geriatric and orthopedic sections of the American Physical Therapy Association since her first year of physical therapy school.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Petrone worked on a team to launch a movement disorder program at CentraState that concentrated on improving access to specialized care for the community served by the hospital. She has also helped develop an educational seminar at CentraState for individuals newly diagnosed with Parkinson's disease entitled "Mastering Parkinson's," funded with a grant from the Parkinson's Foundation. "Mastering Parkinson's" provides a comprehensive introduction to the many facets of managing Parkinson's disease. Additionally, clinicians provide a balance and cognitive screen to assess the need for skilled services versus community exercise.

Dr. Petrone has a passion for falls prevention and intervention extending to all older adults. During the summer 2020 peak of the pandemic, she worked with individuals at an assisted living center to aid in prevention of functional decline and falls when residents were unable to leave the confines of their rooms. She has provided many falls prevention seminars and screening events at local senior centers and YMCAs with the goal to stop falls before they occur. This is in alignment with Dr. Petrone's professional goals of fall prevention and providing appropriately dosed exercise for older adults.
