All physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in the state of Wisconsin are required to take ethics and jurisprudence as part of their licensing renewal. This course provides a detailed look at the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Practice Act, including a review of licensing requirements to ensure you practice in compliance with the state's mandates. PTs and PTAs who embrace a culture of knowing their practice act and code of ethics can create a culture where problems are prevented and risk is mitigated. Additionally, this course will provide information and case-based examples to help improve your PT practice through better understanding of the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Practice Act.

This chapter will explore the distinctions between three elements that shape the legal landscape of physical therapy licensure and practice. An overview of the laws, rules and regulations, and policies that govern physical therapy practice will be reviewed.

2. Wisconsin Physical Therapy Examining Board Administrative Code: Licensure

This chapter will review the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Practice Act as it relates to licensure requirements.

3. Wisconsin Physical Therapy Examining Board Administrative Code: Practice Responsibilities

This chapter will review the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Practice Act as it relates to the overall role and responsibilities of the physical therapist and the rules and regulations surrounding referrals. This chapter will also review the supervision responsibilities of the physical therapist assistant, the role of the physical therapist assistant, and the supervision responsibilities of unlicensed personnel and students.

4. Wisconsin Physical Therapy Examining Board Administrative Code: Professional Development and Continuing Education Requirements

This chapter will review the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Practice Act as it relates to the required continuing education requirements for each renewal period.

This chapter will review the topics of professional accountability, ethical behavior, and professional boundaries by presenting and examining case-based examples. Additionally, the presenter will discuss the specific Wisconsin rules and regulations around unprofessional conduct.
