This course will provide the therapist with a complete review of the elements of compliance as they relate to the provision of physical, occupational and speech therapy services under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. This course includes a review of fraud, abuse and laws that govern the provision of therapy services. Learn the regulations regarding kickbacks, the Stark law, and the False Claim Act. Using real workplace examples, this course will help you understand how important corporate compliance is to your integrity as a therapist.

1. What is Compliance?

In the first chapter of this course, Kate Brewer introduces the meaning of the term compliance as it relates to therapy services. She identifies and discusses the regulatory bodies that govern the provision of therapy services.

2. What is Fraud and Abuse?

In Chapter 2, participants will understand the difference between fraud and abuse in the provision of therapy services. Kate Brewer identifies common examples of fraud and abuse to be vigilant for in therapy services.

3. Other Legal Concerns Relating to Compliance

Kate Brewer describes the Stark Law and discusses what is considered a kickback. Participants will learn when waiving Medicare or Medicaid coinsurance and deductibles is allowed.
