This short course introduces participants to the concept of motivational interviewing (MI) as an effective communication style in healthcare settings. Participants will learn the fundamental principles and techniques of MI to engage patients and elicit their intrinsic motivations for behavior change. Participants will be introduced to practical skills in generating patient buy-in and fostering collaboration to support positive health outcomes.

Dawn Clifford is a professor and graduate coordinator at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Clifford earned her BS in nutrition and dietetics at NAU and completed her dietetic internship at the Greater Los Angeles VA Hospital.
