Stefany Shaibi earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California. She is double board certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in orthopedics and geriatrics. She is an associate clinical professor of physical therapy at Creighton University--Phoenix, where she teaches courses in musculoskeletal and orthopedic evaluation as well…

This chapter will cover the specifics about ageism. This will provide foundational knowledge prior to discussing ageism in healthcare.

2. Ageism and Healthcare Disparities

This chapter discusses the effects of ageism on the health of older adults. It is important to understand how ageism from healthcare practitioners can negatively affect older patients. We will also discuss intersectionality and ageism, including gender and race/ethnicity.

3. Case Studies

We will use three case studies to show variations of ageism in a clinical setting. These cases apply the information from previous chapters.

4. Prevention

This chapter will introduce strategies to prevent ageism. This includes techniques for an individual practitioner as well as policies that can be implemented into a setting.
