In this brief course, participants will learn how to apply motivational interviewing techniques to obtain patient buy-in and foster collaborative relationships in healthcare settings. Participants will be introduced to strategies for using open-ended questions, affirmations, reflections, and summarizations to elicit patients' intrinsic motivations for change.

Dawn Clifford is a professor and graduate coordinator at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Clifford earned her BS in nutrition and dietetics at NAU and completed her dietetic internship at the Greater Los Angeles VA Hospital.
