Lindy L. Weaver, PhD, MOT, OTR\L is an Assistant Clinical Professor at The Ohio State University. She has 9 years of experience as an occupational therapist working in developmental pediatrics and mental health across inpatient, outpatient, and residential settings. She has presented at state, national, and school-based conferences on: autism, pediatric and adolescent mental health, collaborative care, and anxiety. She has six peer-reviewed journal articles in pediatrics and teaches school age and adolescent occupational therapy and mental health courses at OSU. Her areas of interest include community resources and occupational therapy interventions that promote occupational justice and positive mental health development among children and adolescents. Her clinical and research endeavors are focused on improving and providing evidence based care that maximizes protective factors and facilitates personal growth among underserved or stigmatized youth.

This course will provide an overview of mental health and illness as it pertains to autism spectrum disorder. The course will identify and describe an occupational therapy perspective on mental health and illness and its alignment with current ASD research. It will also identify and describe common psychiatric conditions that co-occur with ASD and other developmental, physical, and psychosocial factors that may impact mental health and well-being in persons with ASD. The course is suitable for any occupational therapy practitioner who possesses a basic working knowledge of ASD and the content is applicable across all practice settings that involve persons with ASD.

Mental Health and Autism Spectrum Disorder: Intervention Approaches
This course will provide an overview of assessments and intervention strategies that may be useful in promoting positive mental health among persons with ASD. It will connect concepts from the course Mental Health and Autism Spectrum Disorder: Basic Concepts and Diagnoses in order to present ways to target both the mental health needs of specific individuals as well as ways to embed positive mental health approaches within everyday OT practice. The course is suitable for any occupational therapy practitioner who possesses a basic working knowledge of ASD and the content is applicable across all practice settings that involve persons with ASD. It is recommended that learners complete the Basic Concepts and Diagnoses course prior to viewing this course.
