Best Practice for Flexor Tendon Rehabilitation

Presented by Kristin Valdes, OTD, OT, CHT

Best Practice for Flexor Tendon Rehabilitation

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.
Video Runtime: 53 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 53 Minutes

There is new research regarding optimal practice for flexor tendon rehabilitation and the forces applied during the rehabilitation process. In this course, the practitioner will examine the rationale for the provision of active exercises rather than place-and-hold exercises through an in-depth analysis of anatomical considerations. Additionally, the course will provide a rationale for tendon mobilization to prevent adhesion formation. This course uses detailed motion graphics, illustrations, and live demonstrations to highlight best practice based on the latest evidence. Easy-to-understand patient instructions will be demonstrated to ensure client adherence to home exercise programs.

Therapist Considerations in Flexor Tendon Management

Presented by Kristin Valdes, OTD, OT, CHT

Therapist Considerations in Flexor Tendon Management

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.
Video Runtime: 51 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 46 Minutes

Therapists are tasked with making a multitude of decisions during the rehabilitation of patients post flexor tendon repair. They must choose appropriate orthotic devices, create exercise programs, and prescribe home programs to increase therapeutic outcomes. Additionally, they must understand techniques that can help patients be more successful in their therapeutic outcomes. In this course, practitioners will learn how to advance exercise regimes based on patient presentation if adhesions develop. They will also learn how to differentiate between two different orthoses based on patient characteristics. Finally, they will be made aware of the latest evidence to enhance patient compliance with home exercise programs.

Assessment of the CMC Joint and Proprioception Interventions

Presented by Kristin Valdes, OTD, OT, CHT

Assessment of the CMC Joint and Proprioception Interventions

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.
Video Runtime: 47 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 31 Minutes

It can be difficult to keep up with the latest evidence for the conservative management of carpometacarpal osteoarthritis (CMC OA) because new evidence is constantly being generated. Some assessments that are used in clinical practice in the evaluation of the CMC joint are not reliable. The most reliable assessments for determining range of motion, strength, and joint position can include errors. There are new provocative tests that can rule out or rule in the presence of CMC OA. This course outlines the evidence that can guide best practice regarding the assessment of the CMC joint and proprioception limitations. Evidence regarding a specific program of proprioception interventions for the thumb will be described and demonstrated. This course is designed for the advanced hand therapist.

Rehabilitation Following Wrist Fracture

Presented by Kristin Valdes, OTD, OT, CHT

Rehabilitation Following Wrist Fracture

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.

How can individuals with wrist fracture avoid functional decline? For the individual who incurred a wrist fracture, timely and effective rehabilitation may significantly reduce functional decline. This course will provide the rehabilitation professional with the tools needed to access sensorimotor dysfunction and implement proprioception activities into practice. Incorporating evidence regarding the functional plane of the wrist into practice can improve wrist rehabilitation and inform your practice and treatment of those with wrist fracture. Join Dr. Kristin Valdes as she provides the relevant information to safely and effectively rehabilitate individuals with wrist fracture through instructive graphics, videos of real patients, and detailed illustrations of research literature.

Sensorimotor and Proprioception for the Upper Extremity

Presented by Kristin Valdes, OTD, OT, CHT

Sensorimotor and Proprioception for the Upper Extremity

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.

Sensorimotor deficits can impair function and may be present in individuals with hand and wrist conditions. Researchers have reported sensorimotor deficits exist in patients with common upper extremity conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, distal radius fracture, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). To combat these conditions, many types of interventions can be incorporated into practice to enhance proprioception input and restore hand and wrist function. This course will provide the rehabilitation professional with the tools needed to understand the complex sensorimotor dysfunction of the upper extremity and to assess sensorimotor dysfunction and implement proprioception activities into their practice. Join Dr. Kris Valdes as she prepares you to approach sensorimotor and proprioception in the upper extremity through a comprehensive lecture, detailed motion graphics, and interactive demonstrations.

Therapy and Assessment Following Wrist Fracture

Presented by Kristin Valdes, OTD, OT, CHT

Therapy and Assessment Following Wrist Fracture

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.

Distal radius fractures are a commonly seen diagnosis and account for 14% of all fractures. Women over the age of 65 who fracture their wrist are approximately 50% more likely to experience a clinically important functional decline compared to women without a wrist fracture. This course will provide the rehabilitation professional with an understanding of the complex anatomical relationships that exist in the wrist. The participant will also gain understanding regarding the predictors that may contribute to poor outcomes. Join Dr. Kristin Valdes as she explains how to appropriately provide therapy and assessment following wrist fracture with consideration for the anatomy and current evidence. Through expressive motion graphics, detailed supplementary materials, and a thorough, engaging lecture, this course prepares the participant to approach therapy and assessment through evidence-based strategies.
