This course explores the complex relationship between the pharynx and lower esophageal regions. The participant will be introduced to esophageal disorders that may impact the evaluation procedures for disorders of the upper esophageal sphincter (UES). The participant will also develop the skills to differentiate between esophageal disorders that can affect the UES, and apply their knowledge in an interactive case activity. This is the second course in a four course series by Dr. Groher. Please make sure to watch:

1. UES Anatomy and Mechanics

In this chapter, the participant will learn the basics of esophageal-based disorders. Dr. Groher frames the basics of esophageal-based disorders in terms of how they might affect the participant’s evaluation procedures of disorders of the upper esophageal sphincter.

2. Disorders of the UES

Dr. Groher will instruct the participant to differentiate between disorders above, within, and below the upper esophageal sphincter that may be causative underlying symptoms of dysphagia.

3. Pharyngo-Esophageal Case Study

Dr. Groher presents the case study of a 49-year-old female who complains of difficulty swallowing solid foods over the last three months. Test your knowledge gained from the course as you work your way through this interactive learning activity. Remember to download the worksheet and pause the video to record your answers.

4. Question and Answer
