Accreditation Check:

In the world of orthopedic surgery, arthroscopic hip surgery is a relatively "new" procedure. There are a growing number of surgeons performing these procedures, but postoperative protocols can be highly variable. This course is intended to guide you through the post-operative rehabilitation timeline based on the biological healing principles, from initial postoperative visits, to ultimate return to sport or function. Upon completion of the course, the participant should feel comfortable with the biological healing timeline, and subsequent weight bearing and/or movement restrictions implemented, after which they will be able to progress patients appropriately through the entire rehabilitation process.

1. Rehabilitation of the Post-Operative Hip

In this chapter, Mike Voight describes the precautions and timelines for biological healing versus non-biological healing. Participants will review the progression of mobilizations to restore full ROM post operatively, determine appropriate timelines for the progression of hip strengthening post operatively, and will come to understand post operative precautions for return to sport function.

2. Hip Stability

Conducting functional testing for the hip is important for gauging overall stability. In this chapter, Dr. Voight demonstrates the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), and its use in operative hip rehabilitation/progression.

3. Functional Performance Testing for the Hip

Chapter three continues the discussion of the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), and provides participants with an overview of functional and sport specific testing relevant to the hip, as well as outcome measures used in hip assessment and rehabilitation.
