This course introduces the learner to the fundamentals of the use of therapeutic taping for the pediatric client. In this course, the learner will be introduced to a number of mediums, both adhesive and non-adhesive, that can be used to facilitate improved posture and alignment for more efficient function in children. We will review muscle groups significant to alignment, and discuss how their enhancement can provide better activation. The learner will gain insight for problem solving with the pediatric client to assess what medium and muscle groups will best enhance function.

Jacqueline Grimenstein, PT,CKTP, C/NDT received her bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974. She is a certified Kinesiotaping Practitioner and presents courses on the use of a variety of taping medium in conjunction with strengthening for the pediatric population. 1. Introduction

In this chapter, the learner will be introduced to the history and purpose of using taping media in relation to the treatment of children with posture and alignment impairments.

2. Areas of Weakness

In this chapter muscle groups that are key to alignment will be reviewed, as well as possible causes for changes in alignment.

3. Indications for Taping

In this chapter, we will explore when a therapist may choose to use taping from both the client’s perspective and from the perspective of the therapist. We will look at precautions and when taping is not an option.

4. Types of Tape

Various types of adhesive and non-adhesive products and their properties that can facilitate posture and movement will be introduced.
