1. Family Engagement in the NICU
This chapter will discuss the important role of the family in the NICU, including staff perceptions of the parental role in the NICU, stressors of the family with an infant in the NICU, and resources available to these families. The PFCC model will be discussed.
2. Support Systems for the NICU Family
This chapter will provide the learner with information to identify supports for the NICU family, including benefits to family intervention in the NICU, family caregiving opportunities in the NICU, education and implementation of neonates’ care needs while in the NICU and post-discharge, and support systems and groups for family and caregivers.
3. Preparing the NICU Neonate and Family for Home
This chapter will focus on discharge planning for the neonate in the NICU. Family barriers to discharge readiness, tools to assist the family in preparing for the neonate in the home, and expectations of the neonate’s first two months after discharge will be discussed.
4. The First Two Months Home With the NICU Graduate
In this chapter, Dr. Gatlin discusses developmental care in the NICU and patient-centered care with a parent of a NICU graduate.
