This course provides a comprehensive overview of current evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for concussion recognition, evaluation, and treatment. The course is in part designed for individuals prepping for the orthopedic specialist board examination and will explore the complex relationships between concussion and other diagnoses that complicate the diagnostic and treatment process. By the end of this course, participants will be proficient in differential diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment in four domains: cervicogenic, vestibular and oculomotor, physiologic, and motor function.

Caralyn Baxter, DPT, is the owner and lead physical therapist at Motion UT in Park City, Utah. She is the former head physical therapist for the 2018 Olympic Freeski Halfpipe Team and the former regional director at the Kutcher Clinic for Sports Neurology. 1. Differential Diagnosis Post Head Impact

This chapter will cover the diagnostic process post head impact. It will review a comprehensive differential diagnosis and introduce diagnostic levels of certainty when identifying a concussion.

2. Physical Examination

This chapter will cover evidence-based concussion evaluation components and considerations in four primary domains: cervicogenic, vestibular and oculomotor, physiologic, and motor function. It will also provide video demonstration of the examination process.

3. Treatment

This chapter will cover evidence-based concussion rehabilitation interventions. It will also review the complex interactions from system to system and address how to prioritize impairments to optimize recovery.
