In this chapter, we will review various approaches to use in some of the most difficult patient interactions, such as when patients are angry, frustrated, noncompliant, or exhibit inappropriate behavior. These approaches will help the clinician build confidence in managing these challenging situations and help foster more trusting and productive clinical relationships with patients.

2. Supporting Patient Progress

In this chapter, we will discuss ways to support patient progress. We will examine the benefits of identifying and building upon patient strengths, and review a three-part strategy to help build resilience in our patients.
