The rules and guidelines that govern medical practices are primarily written with the adult patient in mind. 1. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
This chapter introduces the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, Chapter 15, and the wealth of free information available to the practicing therapist. The participant will learn some of the information that is included in this document and where to find it. The participant will also learn why and how the information in this manual applies to the outpatient pediatric therapy practice.
2. HIPAA (Health Information Privacy) HHS.gov
This chapter introduces HIPAA, why it exists, and compliance required of the pediatric therapist in the outpatient pediatric therapy setting. It highlights useful information and directs the participant to resources for small practice requirements compared to institutional requirements. The course addresses requirements for the privacy rule as well as requirements for the security rule and how these rules apply to the employee versus the business owner.
3. Coding for Billing
This chapter introduces and reviews ICD 10 coding and CPT coding required for billing healthcare payers. It gives the participant an overview of information available in suggested resources. It explains how these codes affect requirements for documentation and service provision. The course also offers tips for selection of codes and successful billing and reimbursement.
