Diagnostic testing can often determine if a pediatric cardiovascular condition exists. It is important for physical therapists to be able to use information from testing to help establish a plan of care.

2. Cardiovascular Conditions

This chapter will discuss the most frequently seen cardiovascular defects the in the pediatric population. Emphasis will be placed on how defects impact development, as well as surgical and medical management of conditions.

3. Cardiovascular Equipment and Precautions

Precautions are often put into place once a cardiac condition is diagnosed or surgically corrected. This chapter will focus on common equipment and precautions associated with cardiac conditions, including precautions related to surgical protocols.

4. Cardiovascular Medications

Pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions are often prescribed multiple medications. This chapter will discuss common medications that a physical therapist encounters in this population, as well as implications for practice.

5. Interventions for Cardiovascular Dysfunction

Appropriate age-related interventions for the pediatric cardiovascular population will be discussed during this chapter. Interventions will focus on commonly seen impairments, such as impairments in endurance and strength.
