Kathryn Brewer, PT, DPT, MEd, Geriatric Clinical Specialist Emeritus

Dr. Brewer graduated with her degree in physical therapy from The Ohio State University and received her Master of Education degree from the University of Cincinnati. 1. Characteristics of Adult Learners

Teachable moments occur with nearly every physical therapy encounter. Understanding the process of learning and behavior change tailored to adults and geriatric clients can make strategies more customized to individual needs.

2. Factors Influencing Performance of Learning Tasks

Numerous intrinsic and extrinsic factors may affect your patient’s ability to comprehend and apply new knowledge or skills to manage their health and function differently. The clinician should be versatile in customizing teaching methodology to best meet the needs of the patient.
