Medication review is a necessary part of the chart review for any evaluation, especially dysphagia. Medications can contribute to/exacerbate a patient's dysphagia. However, our training in pharmacology may be minimal, at best. How do medications work, and what impact do they have on the swallow? Part two of this two part series describes intended and unintended impacts of medications, and possible interactions of drugs, herbs and foods. Specific disorders and the most common medications for each will be reviewed with potential side effects. Participants will leave this program with resources to use for a medication review.
