This course provides a comprehensive overview of neuropathies associated with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), and Diabetes Neuropathy (DN). Etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical presentation of these conditions will be discussed. Typical medical management of these conditions is discussed. Physical therapy management principles, including contraindications and precautions with exercise prescription based upon the current evidence, are discussed. The effect of neuropathy on the autonomic nervous system and its implications on function will be covered.

1. Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)

This chapter will review the etiology, pathogenesis, presenting signs and symptoms, and implications for physical therapy management for GBS. Medical management principles for GBS will also be discussed.

2. Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)

This chapter will review the etiology, pathogenesis, presenting signs and symptoms, and implications for physical therapy management for CIDP. Medical management principles for CIDP will also be discussed.

3. Diabetic Neuropathy (DN)

This chapter will provide a review of the pathogenesis of Type I and Type II Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The etiology, pathogenesis, presenting signs and symptoms, and implications for physical therapy management related to diabetic neuropathy will be discussed. Medical management principles for diabetic neuropathy will also be covered.
