This course is the second in a two-part series on bathroom solutions, with Marnie Renda. In this installment, learners will explore the complex problems associated with modifying tubs and showers for the disabled adult to prevent falls and maintain access to bathing. The goal of this course is for learners to develop the foundational skills and reasoning to provide the best recommendations for facilitating independent bathing. The course begins by reviewing the measurements and ADA recommendations essential to assessing bathing situations. Marnie Renda then provides examples of real solutions, the reasoning behind each modification, and the pros and cons for different modification options.

1. Tub/Shower Measurements and ADA

The first chapter of this course sets the groundwork for assessing tub and shower situations by reviewing essential measurements and ADA standards for removable and permanent seats. These measurements are illustrated by real-world examples.

2. Access Solutions

This chapter explains the concepts behind assessing for and designing access solutions for tubs via real-world examples. The pros and cons and reasoning behind several example solutions are discussed.

3. Seating and Support Surfaces

Tub or shower seating can be an effective means to allow disabled persons to bathe independently. This chapter reviews approaches to assessing for and adding seating solutions including transfer benches, folding seats, tub clips, and other permanent and impermanent solutions.
