1. Treatment Options for Stages of CKD and ESRD

Nurses need to recognize the differing plans of care for ESRD patients including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplants. This chapter provides information on the different treatment options available for end-stage renal disease (ESRD).

2. Interpretation of Hypertension, Lab Values, and Tests

Understanding and interpreting changes in hypertension along with pertinent labs and tests is covered in this chapter. This knowledge will help provide appropriate, therapeutic nursing interventions throughout different stages of chronic renal disease.

3. Depression and ESRD

Understanding the prevalence of depression and providing interventions and education is helpful for patients with chronic and/or end-stage renal disease. This chapter will address the need for assessment of patients’ psychosocial well-being and describe therapeutic interventions that can improve one’s quality of life.
