Pain is a complex output that is affected by numerous factors including beliefs, memories and emotions. Describing pain strictly in terms of altered biomechanics may cause or increase anxiety and fear associated with movement and negatively affect a patient’s recovery. Treatment interventions intended to adjust a patient’s biomechanics often show a positive change in symptoms. However, these changes are most likely due to some mechanism other than altering their biomechanics.
