Breaking News: PTAs & OTAs Allowed to Furnish Services via Telehealth in Private Practice
While many of you are probably still reeling from the good news last week about telehealth for therapy providers in private practice, we now have another boost from CMS.
According to CMS representatives on Tuesday’s conference call with stakeholders, PTAs and OTAs can now furnish services via telehealth, with the supervising clinician able to bill for those services. These changes are for the duration of the COVID-19 crisis.
During the call, CMS also stated that virtual direct supervision of assistant staff may be allowable in some circumstances. However, the APTA is urging caution on virtual direct supervision until more guidance is issued. State rules will also still apply, so we encourage you to consult those while we all wait on further direction from CMS.
